Welcome to 七爺車記 Che Kee Restaurant, located conveniently in Bayan Lepas, Penang. This Hong Kong-style café, or cha chaan teng, has quickly become a favorite for both locals and visitors alike. Situated at No. 70-1-6, Jalan Mahsuri, 11900 Bayan Baru, the restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere ideal for enjoying a delightful meal at any time of the day.
As you step inside, the warm and cozy ambiance lures you in, and the tantalizing aromas of traditional Hong Kong cuisine greet you. One standout option from their extensive menu is the HK Style Rice Noodle (RN01), a delightful dish featuring a subtle peanut sauce that is both rich and comforting at just MYR 9.00. The Curry Rice Noodle (RN02) is another dish worth trying, boasting a harmonious blend of fish ball and fish skin flavors for MYR 12.00.
Fans of classic Western dishes will appreciate the Nanyang Chicken Chop (WF01) and the succulent Black Pepper Chicken Steak (WF02), both priced at MYR 23.00. These meals promise generous portions that are satisfying to the palate. Do not miss the 7 Ye Homemade Man Tou (MT01) served with kaya and peanut sauce, a steal at MYR 11.00. The sweet yet savory pairing is a nostalgic nod to traditional flavors.
Customer reviews highlight the restaurant's dedication to quality. Richard Ho notes the exceptional wantons and the intriguing Macau-style Portuguese Egg Tart, stating it features a light, buttery crust and creamy filling – arguably one of the best outside Hong Kong or Macau. Similarly, Kate Mjie fondly remarks on how each dish is crafted with care, making her dining experience truly memorable.
However, some have mentioned the sweetness of the drinks may be a tad overwhelming, with suggestions for a more adjustable option. It's important to try their signature Hong Kong milk tea or the local favorite, Kopi O, which many patrons admire for its full-bodied flavor.
In summary, 七爺車記 Che Kee Restaurant offers a compelling fusion of flavors, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic Hong Kong dining experience in Penang. Each dish reflects their commitment to quality, fresh ingredients, and traditional culinary techniques. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, brunch, or a light evening meal, you are sure to leave satisfied and craving more.

I got to know this shop from Juru branch. But now they move to Bayan Lepas. I came twice à week in May2025. Food is good, portion is big, staff is helpful. The only thing is the drinks are too sweet they can’t adjust the sugar. So the only option is Kopi O

Tried this place and tried their chewy peanut tart and salted charcoal tart, and also their polo bun. 1. The salted charcoal tart was really nice. Eggy, creamy, and the crust is crunchy and you can find some saltiness on the tart. 2. Chewy peanut tart: this one has a unique taste. Its like eating a peanut mochi inside a tart. 3. Polo bun: dont taste as good as other polo bun that i ate. The dough is not really soft. Overall, a nice place to eat breakfast, but i dont think i will eat their polobun again if later i come back here.

Lovely Hong Kong 'chaan theng' (kopitiam) style cafe. Serves up a delicious array of traditional HK inspired breakfast & brunch cuisine. Will definitely satisfy the foodie looking for Cantonese style breakfast food, which is not the typical Penang cuisine. So what's good? . We tried and can highly recommend: 1. Any of the wanton noodles sets (prepared with special HK style noodles that are springy and yet light and non-doughy-excellent and deserving of its in-house signature entree tag). 2. The Macau style Portuguese Egg Tart (must be tasted to be believed; fragrant light buttered crust and the creamiest fine egg tart filling, arguably one of the best we've tasted outside of HK/Macau). 3. The Peanut Butter and 3 Bangsa toast sets were excellent too for anyone preferring a lighter brekkie meal. Also worth trying is the very unusual HK fusion style Chee Cheong Fun (which is drizzled with a unique peanut butter-sesame sauce, totally unlike our local Penang version with prawn paste). Also recommended are the beverages: the signature HK 'nai cha' (milk tea) and the milk coffee are fantastic, full flavoured with perfectly balanced creaminess & sweetness). 5 stars for unique flavours at this cafe. Good option for anyone looking for something different to have for breakfast!!! .

Am a regular here. There's a wide variety of food here. Noodles, rice, western, toasts. Last night I had cinnamon toast with scrambled egg & curry chicken. Was a yummy light meal. The waitress helped to order this as it wasn't exactly found on menu. Only downside is unable to find the name "7 ye" on Google. Google shows the name as "che kee".
